Gaming Computers: Laptop or Desktop?
If you're trying to decide on a laptop or desktop for PC gaming, there are a number of factors to consider. The main ones are portability, price, and upgradability. If you're on the go a lot, you'll probably need a laptop anyway. If you plan to travel some but prefer to do most of your gaming at home, a desktop will be the best solution. Here are some things to consider when trying to make your decision.
Price
If you have money to spare, opt for a desktop/laptop package from gaming PC companies like iBUYPOWER and Cyberpower. This way you can have a gaming laptop for when you're on the go, but can do most of your gaming at home on the desktop.
If you're on a budget, however, desktop PCs offer the most affordability at the sacrifice of convenience. You can't travel with them at all, though, so if you find yourself wanting to game while you're not at home, a lower end gaming laptop may be a better solution.
Upgrading
Laptops are essentially impossible to upgrade. Because of their size and construction, you can't swap parts out easily. Unlike a desktop PC that has a case you can easily open and switch parts around in, laptops have to be replaced every few years to keep up with the advances of technology.
If you are getting a gaming laptop, plan to upgrade it within a couple years.
Convenience
Laptops, being portable, are often more practical for students and travelers who want to game on the go. They just tend to be more expensive, especially if you're getting a gaming laptop. Because of this, it makes sense to consider how much you're out, and how much gaming you'll be doing outside the house. If most of your gaming is done somewhere you can't set up a desktop PC, a laptop makes more sense, even if you have to pay a bit more for it.
In terms of peripherals, you can hook up monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, and pretty much any other accessory to a laptop, so you can use it easily as a home computer as well.
